The new town of Duqum in Al Wusta Region is being built to service a port and dry dock complex. This is part of regional development for this small and remote part of the Oman. The new town is expected to grow to around 65,000 persons and provide a new focus for the region.
We undertook contextual studies and prepared an appropriate urban design framework. Demographic studies and population forecasting were undertaken, as well as appraisals of existing conditions, constraints and opportunities and visual and landscape analysis.
Urban design proposals were prepared for the first phase of priority development including the town centre. This included detailed layouts for the first neighbourhoods to be built. We used GIS techniques to analyse the site and its surroundings and to provide a base for 3-D visualizations of our proposals.
The work was undertaken in association with Conser and Partners.
